Netball umpiring isn’t really about enforcing rules – it’s an integral part of the Australian netball community as umpires help keep the game safe, fair and fun for everyone.
CNA’s umpiring pathway closely aligns to Netball Australia’s pathway. We actively encourage all umpires to undertake education via Netball Australia’s e-learning portal. CNA also offers many internal education programs throughout the year, check our social media for events and updates.
Exam
It is an expectation that all umpires (regardless of age or experience) complete the Rules of Theory Netball Examination to umpire in our competitions or participate in our programs. The exam fee is $10, tests the basic rules of the game and is accessible all year round and requires a pass mark minimum of 70%. Once completed, you receive a printable PDF certificate and your result is saved in your MyNetball profile. All badged umpires need to complete the Examination every four years as part of meeting umpire competency. To access the Exam, please first sign into your MyNetball account and then click on the Learning Tab.
Course
The Foundation Umpire Education Course is completed online and is a pre-requisite for attaining a National C badge. The introductory course develops umpiring skills and moves you towards official accreditation. Our recommendation is to complete the examination first and then the course once an umpire has gained some practical on-court experience. The course can be completed in stages and accessed at a fee of $40. Once completed you receive a printable PDF certificate and your results are saved in your MyNetball profile.
